COMMUNITY PROJECTS

COMMUNITY PROJECTS

We bring young people together and listen to their views on engendering change.

We source funding to enable their projects to come to life.

We deliver community projects which amplify the voices of young people and unite communities.

  • Engendering Change has had a huge impact on youth voice in the city, working with young asylum seekers, local youth organisations and decision makers from across the political spectrum to make our voices heard.

  • The workshop was amazing. I was nervous about coming but everyone was really welcoming. It’s been great to see the mural come to life and I’ll definitely keep coming back here.

    — Workshop Attendee

  • It’s been really good to see young people come together to show that Portsmouth welcomes asylum seekers. It was interesting to hear about people’s different experiences in such a welcoming environment.

Giving Young People a Voice

It has been a joy to set up Portsmouth’s first ever Youth Cabinet and organise the 2024 MYP elections. This incredible event saw thousands more young people engage in this democratic process than ever before.

Congratulations to Maheep who was elected and to all the brilliant candidates who ran.

Love is Love

After the murder of 16-year-old trans girl Brianna Ghey in Cheshire in February 2023, young people in the city wanted to channel their grief into action. After securing a grant from Portsmouth City Council,  Engendering Change enabled the Youth Cabinet to gather young people at workshops delivered by street artists Samo and Fark. Using the designs created as inspiration, Samo and Fark created the ‘Love is Love mural at Orchard Park. The installation was celebrated with a community picnic and the legacy of this project is a safe and inclusive space for young people.

Engendering Change has ensured that the voices of young people in Portsmouth are not just heard but really listened to.

SOS: Save Our Solent

With funding from Save the Children we were delighted to support Portsmouth's Youth Cabinet to bring their SOS campaign to life. Sick of the illegal dumping of sewage in coastal waters, the Youth Cabinet is seeking signatures for their petition to compel Southern Water to provide water butts to private homes in the region. By reducing the overflow of heavy rain into the sewers, this would help eliminate the need for illegal spills.

Working closely with Portsmouth City of Sanctuary, we have secured further funding to build relationships between local young people and those seeking refuge. We believe that Portsmouth is enriched by the diversity within it and deliver community projects which bring people together with food, music and celebrations.

As members of the Portsmouth Pride Stakeholders Group, we support the trust in planning and delivering the day itself and events to support this. Our founder Jo spoke on the main stage this year about LGBTQ youth and we are excited to support the bid for Portsmouth to host UK Pride in 2025.
